I stumbled on this video a while back. It’s thought-provoking and ties in well with the Stanford Prison Experiment post from yesterday. I would love to hear what some of you think of this, Enjoy.

This was a great video (stumbled across your blog and am enjoying it!). I have taken one psych class so I am no expert at all but am familiar with the prison experiement. This video reminds me of religion and people who blindly follow without knowing why. Ok, I am rambling but again, good stuff here.

Yea, it definitely reminds me of religion, and many other groups that use tradition as their main mode of explanation. Tomorrow I’m posting on The Good Samaritan, you might like that too =).

I look forward to it! But yes, this video does make you think of how tradition is a justified response in many cultures. I am currently back in school pursuing a Bachelors Degree (old brain, explosion possible at any moment!) and even though I am not a Psych major, this is good stuff. <– I use lots of big words too. 🙂
interesting and insightful. For religion, i feel as though those blind followers follow because of the safety of the unknown, despite knowing the reasons. idk if that relates, those are just my two cents
I agree, another major part of religion is coping with the fear of the unknown.

Love this monkey experiment. I have read this story in a book before. Yes, don’t just follow something blindly. That I very much agree.
This post makes me remember this:
“They say, ‘Enough for us the ways we found our fathers following.’ What! Even though their fathers were void of knowledge…?” (5: 104)
This is a verse talking about how people make excuses saying Oh, our ancestors or because so and so did this, than we just follow (blindly), without any thought of what they are doing.
‘they have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not… They are like cattle,–nay more misguided: for they are heedless (of warning).’ (7: 179) — or According to this post: “…they are like monkeys…” 😛
This I just remembered on the last minute
“Are those equal: those who know and those who do not know?” (39: 9)
It’s a question for us to think. Of course the answer to this question is ‘no’.
Sorry, this just crossed my mind. I really don’t mean to offend anyone.
I hope we are not one of the ‘monkeys’. 🙂
